Constructed in the mid 19th century, this orphanage for Jewish children provided asylum for many
children left without parents. In the 1950s, the asylum was converted into a general hospital that
operated until circa 1990. The hospital is located in what is now one of the worst neighborhoods in
the nation and the buildings have fallen into dire neglect. This once magnificent building is now
home to squatters, vandals, and drug addicts.
