The main building of this still active asylum for the insane was
opened in 1876. To this day almost half of the building is used for
administrative and outpatient purposes. The building was designed in
the kirkbride plan and is one of less than 20 kirkbrides left. Sadly,
there are current plans to demolish the building by late 2009.
